Australian Charity of the Month – William Campbell Foundation
~ November 2018
The William Campbell Foundation, our Australian Charity of the Month, is a not-for-profit organization based on the south coast of NSW, committed to helping children and young people. They strive, together with their many partners, to end the inequities and to give children a fair go at a happy, productive and bright future.
For the millions of vulnerable children around the world living without the most basic necessities of life, in danger of violence and abuse, services as those provided by the William Campbell Foundation are a lifeline. In a perfect world, every child would be safe and have the basic necessities of life, but unfortunately that is not the reality we live in.
Every child deserves to be safe, to be loved, and to flourish in a supportive environment. This is their right and it implies that all of us, not just parents and guardians, have the responsibility to contribute to support policies, programs and activities that ensures every child gets the love he or she needs and deserves. The William Campbell Foundation was built on these values and unwavering promise to provide loving, all-heart families and safe homes to those they support.
The foundation runs a foster care program for the children who have been removed from their families by government child protection services. It provides them the safe place they deserve, with trained foster carers.
They are also committed to providing additional support services to areas in need. Their programs and services reach along the South Coast of NSW, with offices in Warilla, Dapto, Bomaderry and Ulladulla. A range of services are available for children in care including mentoring, youth support/crisis care, family preservation and supervised contact and transport.
“All kids need is a little help, a little hope and somebody who believes in them.” – Magic Johnson –
The founder of the William Campbell Foundation, Bill Campbell was a child in care himself. He spent his childhood separated from his siblings and living in foster care institutions. His experiences in care are the reason the William Campbell Foundation exists today.
Bill saw the need to deliver a different type of service model, specializing in keeping sibling groups of children and young people together and with a focus on supporting children and young people’s education.
